| Adoption
The District has hundreds of children currently available for adoption. These children urgently need permanent, loving homes with caring parents. Adoption is ideal for single, married, and divorced adults who want to help children grow, learn, and become responsible, well-adjusted members of the community. The adoption process legally transfers ongoing parental responsibilities from the birth parents to qualified adoptive parents.
Financial assistance may be available to parents who adopt; subsidies are based on the child's special needs. Adopted children are also eligible for Medicaid until the age of 18.
