CFSA Abuse Investigation Process

Once an abuse report is filed, the Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA) will assess and investigate the case. CFSA determines the nature, extent, and cause of child maltreatment and assesses possible risk to the child if left in the situation.

CFSA and neighborhood community centers offer a range of services to abused and neglected children and their families, including:

  • Diagnostic and treatment services
  • Casework services, such as family counseling
  • Foster home network
  • Homemaking or caretaker services
  • Day care services
  • Alcohol or drug counseling
  • Parenting classes
  • Psychological services

To report suspected child abuse or neglect, contact CFSA at (202) 671-SAFE (671-7233).
