CFSA established an internal Office of the Ombudsman to promote child safety and well-being and serve as an impartial liaison to constituents seeking resolution to issues. On April 5, 2021, D.C. Law 23-270 was passed which established a new, external ombuds office, the Office of the Ombudsperson for Children (OFC). This office eliminated the need for the internal CFSA Ombudsman and that function is no longer a part of CFSA.
The new OFC is responsible to the Council of the District of Columbia but is independent and separate from CFSA. The OFC is tasked with improving outcomes for children involved with, previously involved with or otherwise known to the Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA), by holding agencies accountable for fulfilling their responsibilities under the law. More information about the OFC can be found at https://ofc.dc.gov/.
