Child abuse and neglect are tragedies of vast proportions in the US In 2008 (the most recent year for which data are available), public child welfare agencies received 3.3 million reports of abuse/neglect concerning six million children and found that 772,000 were abused or neglected. April is a time to raise awareness about this issue and what communities can do to prevent child maltreatment. CFSA and other local child-serving agencies are sponsoring a series of events throughout April where the public can participate, learn, discuss, and get involved.
